An Arbor Day event is currently scheduled for Thursday, May 1st, outside the County Court House, 624 Main Street, at 2:00 pm. The City of Gooding will be participating with the Mayor’s proclamation that will also satisfy the Tree City USA requirements. Gerry Bates with the Idaho Arbor Day Foundation and Idaho Representative Donna Pence for District 26 will also speak briefly. Librarian Cindy Bigler will read a poem about trees. Lew Pence has donated several red maples to be planted in the City parks. Gooding Elementary School, North Valley Academy and Idaho Educational Services for the Deaf and Blind 2nd grade classes will be participating in a poster contest with the theme “Trees are Terrific…in all Shapes and Sizes.” One student from each 2nd grade class will win a gift from the City of Gooding in honor of Arbor Day. Nan Reedy, part-time librarian, will take care of photos and provide an article to the Times-News, Hub City News, Camas Courier and will also be available online on the City’s webpage.
