It is been awhile since my last article. Summer was a busy time. There are two items I want to alert you to today.
First, Gooding is in the unique position of having two pools, an outdoor pool that is used in the summer and an indoor pool that is used year round. The Gooding Recreation District manages both pools. The indoor pool, located on the ISDB campus, is used by families, the swim team, lap swimmers, and the North Canyon Medical Center for Aquatic Therapy. The revenue the indoor pool generates is not sufficient to keep it open. A Committee has been formed to consider options for keeping the pool open. The swim team is canvassing the City of Gooding with flyers to update everyone on the indoor pool. If you are approached about a family pass, please give it consideration. A place for the family to swim and play together during the winter months is an opportunity that should be taken. There will be a Halloween party at the pool Saturday the 29th of October. If you have any questions, want to discuss how to purchase a family pass, or find out more information about the Halloween Party you can contact either Vaunda Barrus at 934 5452 or Kent Seifert at 539-4194.
Second, I have been working with my Intern, Drew Nelson, to develop a Citizens Academy presentation that explains the City’s goals, organization, budget, and challenges for the coming years. We are nearly finished with the development of the presentation. We are planning to hold several presentations over the next four weeks. This will offer the citizens of Gooding some insight into how the city functions, how the budget works, and an opportunity to become more active in city government. The first two presentations will be held October 18th at 7:00 P.M. and October 24th at 7:00 P.M. in the City Council Chambers. It is important that the citizens of any town understand how their local government works. I hope to see you there.
